Autumn (Fall) is my favorite season. Although we don’t experience much seasonal change where I live here in Australia, our neighbor has the most stunning deciduous trees in front of his horse
paddock. Every time I walked past his property, I always noted that one day I will set up an autumn photo shoot in front of his horse pen. It wasn’t long before I had my opportunity.
My inspiration came from the most stunning deep orange roses I found in a florist. They were so spectacular I had to use them as the main color on the dessert table.
I set up some rustic desserts on an old dressing table near my favorite tree. I made three feature cakes for the display, one ginger & caramel cake with poached caramel pears on top, a chocolate
naked cake decorated with fresh flowers and a vanilla buttercream cake with dried orange slices and a toy moose on top added to the rustic outdoor theme. I also had matching orange and poppyseed cupcakes. Sitting a cake on an old timber crate added height to the display. Stacking cake stands is also another way to add interest.
Glass compotes and red glass cake stands of caramel corn, nutty chocolate biscuits and homemade trail mix in the cutest deer mason jars completed the dessert selection. Red apples and faux deer were placed around the table to add interest. The neighbor’s horse Moses also co-operated beautifully for my shoot, standing exactly where I needed him.
A beautiful desert table does not need to be elaborate or expensive. By using what you have, any interesting pieces of furniture or decor, buying a few flowers and taking it all outdoors, you can turn a simple cake and cookies into something special.
